B&M Dive Machine Coming to Cedar Point in 2016?

Well, it would appear that the rumors are circulating something fierce on this one thanks to a memo that was leaked/uncovered by the Sandusky Register. It would appear that a communication from the famed Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) coaster design firm is firmly hinting at a new coaster coming to Cedar Point in 2016.

So, just what is in the uncovered document? Well, it would seem like one of the design firm's dive machines will be coming to the park. At a price tag of around $15mil, it does seem like a likely fit and the park already has a healthy stable of coasters from B&M, as do many Cedar Fair parks around North America.

One of the things that makes this rumor a little more concrete is that the area the park has currently marked for redevelopment isn't that large. By design, most dive machines are compact in nature thanks to steep lift hills and their typical 90 degree first drops, allowing for a much smaller space to be utilized by them.

Given the fact that demolition has started on the Good Time Theater, the area around it could be a good fit. This is in spite of a couple of other rides in the area. I'm sure that they could work around them if they wanted or possibly go in other directions with the layout as well.

Interestingly enough, the proposed ride from B&M also included specs as well. According to the report, the coaster would feature a height of 223 feet with a total length of 3,625 feet and a top speed of 80 mph.  The ride will feature several elements including a vertical drop in a tunnel, an Immelmann, a 270-degree roll, a banked curve, a “looping,” an Immelmann with a half-roll exit, a second drop, a camel back and a spiral with a total of four inversions.

If those stats are anything to be believed, it would not only make it the tallest and longest coaster of its type in the world, but also with the most inversions and tallest. The tallest currently, Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Griffon at 205'. The only other coaster of its kind in the United States is Sheikra at Busch Gardens Tampa.  Curious what it's like to ride one of these beasts? Got ya covered from our ride on Griffon earlier in 2014.

Now, this is only one proposal the park is looking at for 2016, and we won't know for sure if this is exactly what's coming, but it would make sense if they wanted to get another record breaker for the Cedar Fair family of parks.

Here We Go Again, Cedar Point Teasing Something for 2016?

Well, the folks over at Cedar Point are hinting at something coming in the near future and that's most likely to be 2016. Now, who knows what could be coming with this, since the last time they went on a teasing spree it turned out to be a paint job and different train set up for Mantis, turning it into Rougarou for this year. Not exactly worth the hype they gave it, but that's just me.

Now, many were speculating that last summer's campaign was pointing to a new ride, and while that didn't pan out, this year it's looking like that's more of a possibility. Why do I say that? Well, mostly due to the fact that they've started demolition of the Good Time Theater, as seen by the picture on the right here.

Why remove something of that size unless something was going to take it's place? Of course, it could just be a new theater/entertainment venue as well that's coming since the park wouldn't have one.

However, Tony Clark, Cedar Point's Head of Communication, has been at it again with the tweet below and points out that it's a whole lot of space. He's correct, that it is and would be a great spot for a new ride of some kind or coaster. Could it be the long awaited dark ride that fans have been hoping for, maybe a new coaster? No clue on that one just yet at all. The need could sway in either direction pretty easily, as well as not swing at all and just be the aforementioned entertainment space too.

So, there ya have it. Not much is known other than something is coming and the demolition of Good Time Theater is under way. We'll be keeping our eye out on this one so stick around for all the updates, speculation and other weirdness that is sure to follow.

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom: Major Additions in 2014

!!Breaking News!!

Today Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom announced their big 2014 project. Major expansions are coming to Wildwater Kingdom in the form of a massive slide tower which will feature 6 new slides and the catchy name of "Snake Pit".

This new slide tower will feature a series of slides. The first is a series spiral slides called 'Boa Blasters' which will have turning twists on 325 feet of slide.  A single slide series of tube slides called 'Constrictor' which will use single and double tubes, down a series of hills. It's 449 feet long with a height of 50 feet and a 360 degree turn.

The most impressive set of slides are called 'Python Plummet' which is a count-down slide. Enclosed in a tube, your counted down then dropped into a steep incline of slide. It is also the tallest point of the 'Snake Pit' addition at 65' tall on the six story slide tower.

With the addition of 'Snake Pit' Wildwater Kingdom will total 26 slides, two wave pools and two lazy rivers.

In addition to the big Wildwater Kingdom news today, Dorney Park isn't left out either. Returning to the park in 2014 the "All Wheel Sport Show" will return to the 'Good Time Theater'.  In the press release they state the show will feature special effects along side bikers, skaters, aerialists and gymnasts who will be performing gravity-defying stunts.  The show is reported to be "High Energy and High Thrill" by the parks VP and GM, Michael Fehnel.
