Minecraft Theme Park Coming to New York Soon?

via poste744 on Deviant Art
Okay, so much of the information comes from The National Report, which in the past hasn't exactly been, what we call "true", not even in the slightest. For now, let's take this one with a MASSIVE grain of salt. More like a truckload. However, let's poke around and see what exactly they're on about anyway, shall we?

This one is definitely a bit of interesting news. It would seem that Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson, is possibly attempting to build a theme park based on the wildly popular computer game in the state of New York. Yes, you read that right.

Now, there are a few details of just what this project will entail somewhat too. It's "reported" that the park will cost somewhere in the $290million range and Notch himself will be fronting $150million of that money himself.

The rest of the financial support is reportedly to come from other investors, one of which I assume would be Microsoft who owns the rights to the game now after purchasing it for $2.4billion not that long ago. It's been reported that Notch has hired the Thinkwell Group, a theme park design firm, to handle the design end of things. Apparently there has been a number of construction companies in the area that have been put on notice and it's quite possible the ground breaking could happen sometime this year and hopes to open in 2018.

Schlitterbahn Fort Lauderdale- One Step Closer!

Schlitterbahn Fort Lauderdale Moves One Step Closer!

Good news today for waterpark fans, it seems Schlitterbahn's newest water park which is slated for Fort Lauderdale, Florida is one step closer to being a reality.

While a tentative opening date of 2017, Schlitterbahn has finally received the approval to rent the land which is owned by the FAA. With an agreement for nearly $810,00 per year, the park is getting ready to move forward with their plans for the space. Opening construction is set to cost around $50 million and will begin with the waterpark portion of the companies plans for the space along with the partial demolition of the old Fort Lauderdale Stadium, some of which will be used by the park.

The city and park have until July 15h to sign the agreement with the FAA. After that, Schlitterbahn will need to put together all their financing and plans per the terms of the lease. Once these items are complete, they believe it will take around two years to complete the project.

Proposed New Park- Re-Opening Six Flags New Orleans

Proposed New Park- Trying to Re-Open Six Flags New Orleans.

In a surprise move which no one expected, a group called TPC-NOLA has filed proposed plans to both fix and reopen the devastated amusement park, Six Flags New Orleans under the the parks previous name of "Jazzland".

The group which raised this proposal has a rather large range of experience, from racetracks to zoos, they've re-devolved and worked on a huge range of projects. Their proposal to re-open the abandoned amusement park was filed on February 28th to the city of New Orleans. Along with the proposal the park has filed their plans in a .PDF file online which anyone can view.

Within the proposal they focus on the unique culture and art of New Orleans as well as the fact the defunct park has been used as a movie/TV setting and the idea of an additional waterpark called "Baritone Beach". They point out the amusement park attendance has been highly on the rise as well as the growing interest in waterparks among traveling guests.

Their plan includes a "themed land" model, with five unique areas in the new park.
  • Outdoor Concert Venue
  • The Quarter
  • The Beach
  • The Bayou
  • Sportsman's Paradise
Which are would include a focus of an area of both New Orleans and the State of Louisiana, having multiple rides which appeal to everyone.

The bad news is that nearly everything currently standing at the Six Flags New Orleans site would be removed, the remaining items are simply too damaged to be fixed and reused. However, this proposed new park is willing to bring in new rides and attractions.

Honestly, it's a LOT to take in in a short blog article. I'd suggest anyone interested check out the proposal for themselves, it's easy to read but long!

Schlitterbahn Pondering a New Park.. In Fort Lauderdale, Florida!

Concept Art from Screamscape

Well, it appears some BIG NEWS has surfaced today regarding Schlitterbahn and even more interestingly- Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Schlitterbahn is attempting to strike a deal with the City of Fort Lauderdale in order to place a water park on 64 acres of land. The land, owned by the FAA, was intended for aviation use as it's located next to the executive airport but the city appears able to rent this land for a fair market value.  A deal that has been three years in the making is now expected to get a green light very soon- provided the FAA agrees to the land use deal. The Sun-Sentinel reports this could be approved as early as some point in December and then the local approval process has to begin. So this could be a possible nice future project to bring people back to the Fort Lauderdale area.

Concept Art from Screamscape
The location would be on the land currently used by the Fort Launderdale Baseball Stadium and right beside the Lockhart Stadium. Concept art shows that that Lockhart Stadium would remain and likely be enhanced with the possible new Schlitterbahn park sitting directly next door.

From the concept art (which was located at Screamscape), the park may well include the stadium into it's plans. Which slides and attractions running beside it as well as under and even possibly through it!  Construction is proposed to be around $110 million and includes not only the park and it's attractions but also a 'tree-house' themed hotel which would line the other side of the resort, opposite the stadium.

This area hasn't seen a proper water park since Six Flags Atlantis, which was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Resulting damage plus property value of the land prove the park to never re-open after.  Schlitterbahn has plans for the storms which occasionally target the state of Florida, planning all structures to be proof against the required 155 MPH wind forces (the same most buildings are built to withstand).

We'll be watching this proposed now project closely. For now, we'll wait and see if the FAA approves land use. More details coming when possible!

Grand Texas Theme Park- Opening in Summer 2015

Ever since Six Flags AstroWorld closed in Houston, Texas the area has been without an amusement park. That won't last much longer with the new and highly anticipated Grand Texas Theme Park.

Officials of the proposed park have set an opening date of summer 2015 but this won't be your normal amusement park. This park is going the full 'theme park' route and without Six Flags in the mixture, it's likely to be a success.  Developer Monty Galland and CEO Chuck Hendrix have stated they want a family friendly complete district which you can spend more then a single day enjoying.

The park will open on 150 acres with room for future expansion. The theme park its-self will draw from local Texas history for it's seven themed lands. Officials state some of the theme will be-  The Grand Boardwalk aims to be themed as turn-of-the-century fair. Yet the Pecos Territory will contain most of larger thrill rides. Main Street will give a more romantic look at Texas' past, going more for fun over historical accuracy. Rides are obviously going to be a massive part of this new proposed park but little information exists about them so far.

They will also have their own waterpark called "Big River Water Park" which will be themed as a "quaint 1800's fishing village" and said to be located on 40 acres of land.  Currently no information is known about what attractions the waterpark will contain or when it's projected opening date may be.

On the rest of the 480 acres, the park will build additional goodies for guests and locals alike. It will have a massive retail area, many restaurants, two hotels as well as an RV park. As for entertainment the park plans for a possible  3 different sports venues, not much detail on that right now though. There is also no current time-line on these additional areas, just the opening date range of the theme park.

Mr. Hendrix was the final CEO of Six Flags AstroWorld and the man most people blame for it's demise and destruction.  With this new proposed park, he states he wants to leave a different legacy to the people of Houston.
