Six Flags Announces Identical Flat Rides for Great Adventure, Georgia, Discovery Kingdom and America

Along with the announcement of far more interesting things this morning, the folks at Six Flags announced that 4 "new coasters" would be coming to their parks in 2015 as well.

Six Flags Great Adventure, America, Discovery Kingdom and Over Georgia will be getting the clones for 2015 and while they're labeled as "roller coasters" they're not. Not even the largest, pretty much stock and not that uncommon out there at all. Bad Six Flags, bad!

Anyway, what goes where from the image up there? Here's the little run down:

• Six Flags Great Adventure - Looping Dragon
• Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - DareDevil: Chaos Coaster
• Six Flags America - Bourbon Street Fireball
• Six Flags Over Georgia - The Joker: Chaos Coaster

Interestingly enough, Six Flags Over Georgia is also adding a Harley Quinn themed tilt-a-whirl named Harley Quinn: Spinsanity. Okay, so not really that interesting, but there it is.

That said, all of these are not coasters, so don't be fooled by the Six Flags marketing machine. These Larson Loops are typically found at carnivals and county/state fairs throughout the US and elsewhere. They are fully powered and there's really no "coasting" going on with them. How they're passing these things off as new coasters is a bit of a mystery and a huge disservice to park guests. Six Flags, just stop, they're flat rides. Get over it.

Six Flags Great Adventure- Zumanjaro Delays Kingda Ka Opening

 In not overly surprising news, it seems that the construction on Zumanjaro, the newest drop ride which it attached to Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, has also delayed the opening of the roller coaster this season.

 Originally these signs said the coaster wouldn't open until Memorial Day Weekend. The signs have changed, now stating the coaster won't open until "late spring". Which is a problem with a coaster that is already plagued with delays and closures to begin with (mostly to due wind).

 "Late Spring" will likely delay the opening of the ride another month, giving the park more time to complete the project which up until last month was deemed to be 'on time' construction wise.

Six Flags Magic Mountain- 19th Coaster Named

Six Flags Magic Mountain Names their 19th Coaster.

 Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced the name of their 19th roller coaster.

 A "family" style roller coaster, currently under construction in the "Bugs Bunny World" area of the park. The new ride, called "Speedy Gonzales Hot Rod Racers" will open in 2014 and is made by Zamperla. Not much is currently know about the ride.

 With this addition it raises the parks roller coaster count to a seriously impressive 19 total. With this it will once again steal the crown in the coaster wars.

Dishonor Upon Six Flags.. and their Lawyers!

 Shame upon you, Six Flags America.

 Six Flags America has started a movement to stop for paying a living wage to season and full time park employees. The park has made the movement in Prince George County, Maryland so that they won't have to pay their workers the expected minimum wage increases. By 2017 the wage would be around $11.50 but the park is fighting to hold onto the current $7.25 wage (which you can't survive on in Maryland or most other states).

 Six Flags America has stated, rather rudely, that "season workers don't warrent the same pay as normal employees".

 Yes, They said that.

 In a nutshell, the park is being cheap and refusing to pay season youth and other folks a rightful wage to survive on. Not only is this cheap but it will hurt Six Flags in the long run, why work for a park when you can get greatly improved pay for flipping burgers or bagging groceries? No teen or young adult in their right mind will go to work for the parks, which will create a standard problem at Six Flags- Closed Rides due to Lack of Workers.

 Plus, these people are operating multi-million dollar rides and investments- you might what to think about paying them decently. Good Pay = Happy Employees = Happy Employees = More Work Done. They'll also be very likely to come back season after season, even while in college which creates a base of people who are already trained.

Six Flags Adding Seat Belts to ALL 'Lap Bar Only' Coasters

 More News from Six Flags- This one involving all of the chains amusement parks.

 It seems that Six Flags will be adding in seat belts to all their roller coasters, franchise wide, that currently run only with a lap bar system. This news isn't really surprising after the deadly accident at Six Flags over Texas involving the New Texas Giant roller coaster.

 There doesn't appear to be a time-line for when this improvements must be completed and in place but is seems to be happening very quickly. However, the folks over at Great American Thrills reports that "Superman- Ultimate Flight" at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has already added them.
