Breaking News- Disney to Re-theme Splash Mountain

Breaking News: Disney announces that Splash Mountain will be re-themed to "Princess and a Frog".

With the current movements in the world and changes coming to be more sensitive to minorities, Disney has announced that Splash Mountain will undergo a re-theme.

Currently, Splash Mountain is themed upon the controversial film "Song of the South" which is considered 'banned' by the Disney Vault. It has not been seen or released since 2000. The ride is hugely popular but it's unlikely many have seen the movie which is was based upon.

On the matter, the below is what Disney has to state about the matter:

Today, Disney announced that in both the US parks, Splash Mountain will be transformed with the hit movie "Princess and the Frog".  Disney has stated this new ride will tell a story, picking up where the movie left off. We'll be following Tiana and Louis on musical adventure as they prepare for their first Mardi Gras performance.

Currently there are no additional details or information regarding the new changes coming to the ride.

The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island

The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island.

Okay so perhaps it's not the insanity of the original "Bat" which barely flew for two years. However, using the lore of that ride they've managed to breath some new life into an old park favorite.

When Kings Island decided to re-theme the old suspended coaster "Flight Deck" we were all happy, this classic style coaster needed some love to boost it back into popularity with riders. Now it fits in well with it's brand new neighbor "Banshee" which just opened to the public on Friday.

Perhaps it isn't a new ride but it's classic and people often forget that classics need love also. With a new coat of paint and a spooky new theme, Bat will hopefully fly into your hearts again.

It may not be as thrilling as it's new neighbor but there is something special about this ride none-the-less. Give it a go, give it ten goes. Trust me, this hidden gem is worth your time. Much like it's name-sake it's a hidden gem, seek it out and your in for a treat.

King's Island: The Bat - The Car

King's Island: The Bat

Hello All!!!

I'm so sorry that I'm a little behind in this update but life happens especially with ISI leaving our home turf tomorrow and heading out to SoCal for the week!!

So I have found a photo of what the cars will look when the park opens for business in April.

And....

BOOM BABY!

Photo: Painting of the first set of cars for The Bat roller coaster is down to the finishing touches.

I like the orange myself.  I bet it'll reflect nicely with the sunlight and everything is going to look gorgeous!!!

And just for fun and games (and I can't remember if I posted it before, haha) here is the original commercial for The Bat from 1981.  This is a just a bit of fun plus it's interesting to note that the original ride opened on April 26 and the new ride will open on April 18.  They are SO close to the same opening date.

Now I don't want everyone to worry that any new information will be forgotten while the crew is in CA.  We will be keeping up with all of our in progress stories.

So as always: any comments made are to be polite and without malice.  If you're nice to us then we'll be nice to you.

King's Island: The Bat - Repainting

Hello all!!!

King's Island is super busy with construction on Banshee and redoing The Bat all in time for opening day this year.  We have found some updated pictures for everyone to enjoy.

For everyone who may have forgotten: The Bat is being recreated out of Flight Deck and so far it looks really neat.

Photo: The process of painting the cars for the trains on The Bat roller coaster is underway starting with a coat of primer. Black will be the featured color of the trains. The Bat will be in flight when Kings Island opens for the 2014 season April 18.

Here is a photo of Flight Deck cars being repainted.  I'm going to guess that they're going with the orange and gray color scheme like the track photos, but I haven't seen any finished pictures yet.

Here are two photos of the track being repainted.  I am really happy to see that King's Island is revitalizing Flight Deck rather then knock it down to build something else. I can't wait to see this finalized in April and hope to see more pictures soon.

Kings Island- The Bat Update

Image from Kings Island's Facebook Page
 The Bat- Repainting Keeps Going

I've got to admit, this ride hasn't looked better for a long time.

The new re-theme of 'Flight Deck' into the classic attraction 'The Bat' at Kings Island is making some amazing progress. No longer will it blend in with the back of the park and go unnoticed by many.

The new Orange and Charcoal paint job is going to make this ride stand out once again. I also have to admit, I really hope the coaster cars will get a nice new update with some new fiberglass work also. Plus some nice new queue line goodies, really drive this thing home completely!

I'm really beginning to wonder if Kings Island is planning to fully re-theme this area of their amusement park into a full 'land' type of area. With great themes like 'The Bat' and 'Banshee' happening, I hope it goes beyond the rides and extends to the park. It'd be nice to see something with a slightly darker theme lurking around!

Kings Island- The Bat Overhaul

Despite Winter Weather, Kings Island Keeps Moving!

The Overhaul of Flight Deck and it's complete change over to "The Bat" is making good progress. Kings Island has posted up this image to their Twitter Account. Showing that the paint is going down for the big conversion.

The new Orange and Black theme is a great improvement over the previous "Steel Gray" incarnation of the previous "Top Gun" coaster which was renamed "Flight Deck" after Cedar Fair bought the park from Paramount.  It's still unknown if the ride cars will receive a full new theme to go along with this change over.

Either way, It's AWESOME to see The Bat Return in some shape!

Gasparich Strikes Again- Banbury Cross WILL be Re-themed in 2014

Scott Gasparich  Satan Strikes Again. This time at Banbury Cross.

This man is the devil, I'm telling you folks, someone check him for horns!

...This broke my brain and my heart.

The beautiful entrance area of Busch Gardens Williamsburg is No More. The area of Banbury Cross will be re-themed to 1960's London to go along with the new stage show, London Rocks. London Rocks will be located in the Globe Theater for 2014.

In a press release, Gasparich said the following:
The entire English village inside Busch Gardens is getting a makeover to go with the new show. The Globe is being redesigned to take advantage of the latest technology in lighting, audio and stage design, including the use of projection mapping, ear-bending sonic soundscapes and a raked stage similar to performance stages used in European opera houses. Outside, the village will be decked out with new life and energy that embraces the roots of rock-n-roll with feelings of love, hope and freedom.
“Guests will feel the thrills and excitement of being rock stars in the heyday of rock-n-roll London as they walk through Busch Gardens’ English village,”.

Please prepare yourselves folks, the Red and Blue paint is coming
I'm really hoping it's not going to be that bad but after seeing the other chaos which has replaced once great shows, I'm not holding out for much surprise now that he's getting his hands on a 'land' of the park.

The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island

Okay, maybe this isn't the original "Bat" roller coaster which was a very early prototype of the 'suspended-swinging' coaster.
However, it will breath new life into a fan favorite attraction- Flight Deck.

On this day, 33 years ago in 1980 the original "Bat" opened to the public. As you can see, it was a pretty amazing ride but being a 'new style' it was plagued with problems. The track wasn't angled enough and the mechanics that allowed the car to 'swing' wore out very quickly because of this. If you check out the video, you can see it was a wild ride! The Bat flew it's last run in 1983 when it was demolished.. currently Vortex sits in it's place, reusing the original ride building. If you look around carefully, you can still spot peices that 'The Bat' left behind in that area.

Flight Desk, Summer 2013
Finally dumping the steel gray look and the old left-overs from the paramount days, Kings Island is completely re-themeing Flight Desk with a new 'Orange, Two tones of Steel Gray and Black" color scheme and very likely, re-themed ride trains!

Not only does "The Bat" fit in with the new "dark" theme which the park seems to have going, it's going to mesh beautifully with it's new big sister, Banshee.

This is a perfect answer for an excellent coaster. Rather then seeing an already rare type of coaster disappear, the park is giving it a much needed infusion of life.  Yes, it's the same ride but it's also paying homage to it's ancestor and I can't think of a ride that deserves more love then Flight Deck!

...Okay and 'The Bat' had about the coolest logo around, both new and old!

Busy Season and Down Rides- Test Track and Epcot

Test Track at Epcot Center

Okay, I understand fully that these things need to happen to every theme park. However I can't agree with Disney Worlds ideas of a 'good timeline' in which to do them.

Traditionally, right now is the slow season for Central Florida and it's Theme Parks. This is when your crowds are the lightest and you don't need all of your rides going at full capacity to keep lines moving. So now should be the time you start giving your rides downtime for repairs, replacements and overhauls. However sometimes it seems Disney forgets these things, you don't want to take down a large RPH (riders per hour) ride in the middle of summer if you can help it. Yet that seems like that's exactly what's happening lately.

Test Track at Epcot is currently going down for a complete re-theme brought on by GM's contract renewal with the ride. It was all part of the deal which would keep GM a sponsor of the Test Track attraction, however it's going to require a good bit of work in order to meet the new standards GM is demanding for their money.  Rumors have been flying left and right, the most concise I've head it that GM is going with a more futurist theme as well as interactive. Some rumors have been making comparisons to 'Tron' as well as large interactive areas guest would control threw-out the attraction, not just within the queue line.

However, the timeline for this massive re-vamp is, as I said, at the worst possible time. The downtime will begin in either April or May while staying closed completely threw the busiest time of year (May-August) and re-open sometime in October. Test Track is one of the current keystones of Future World at Epcot, second only to Mission: Space is it's power to draw in people. Epcot Center is already suffering the lowest attendance of all the Disney World theme parks, closing down a key attraction during the peak of tourist season is frankly, STUPID.  While I understand GM and Disney trying to keep the partnership and attraction current it would be far smarter for the downtime to begin AFTER peak and re-open for the Holiday season. Which would give Epcot Center a much better attendance and ability to be in the black.

Perhaps I'm not seeing the bigger picture but information is rather vauge to begin with other then the basic info on Test Tracks re-theming and the months which the ride will be down.

A good example of how a downtime should work is how Disney is handling Big Thunder Mountains track replacement.  The ride when down in early January for a work on the coaster track, rumor says it's a full replacement of all track but this can't and hasn't been confirmed yet. However, Thunder Mountain will only be down until the end of May. Which still gives Magic Kingdom use of a large RPH attraction during peak season.

Do you see where I'm going with this yet?

We all know Magic Kingdom is the big attraction to Disney World however, Epcot Center needs it's love also. It's nearly shameful how it's fallen to the wayside, even Disney should know you have to spend money to make money. Fixing up one or two attractions every few years isn't going to help in a declining economy. To get people in the gate they need to step up the work and attractions of Epcot if they ever fully expect the park to reach potential again. Loosing sponsorship is no excuse but it's their favorite one to use.

So by the information we can access, it's pretty obvious Epcot, either by forgetful or purposeful neglect is once again going to suffer. This time it's an ill-timed re-theming of Test Track, who knows what will happen in the next round? I certainly don't. However, I would suggest you take heart (I am trying to myself). Rumors are abound from various inside sources from multiple places that Epcot may soon get the love it so rightfully deserves and desperately needs.
