Breaking News: Disney announces that Splash Mountain will be re-themed to "Princess and a Frog".
With the current movements in the world and changes coming to be more sensitive to minorities, Disney has announced that Splash Mountain will undergo a re-theme.
Currently, Splash Mountain is themed upon the controversial film "Song of the South" which is considered 'banned' by the Disney Vault. It has not been seen or released since 2000. The ride is hugely popular but it's unlikely many have seen the movie which is was based upon.
On the matter, the below is what Disney has to state about the matter:
Today, Disney announced that in both the US parks, Splash Mountain will be transformed with the hit movie "Princess and the Frog". Disney has stated this new ride will tell a story, picking up where the movie left off. We'll be following Tiana and Louis on musical adventure as they prepare for their first Mardi Gras performance.
Currently there are no additional details or information regarding the new changes coming to the ride.

US Disney Parks New Ban.. and it's not a smart move.
US Disney Parks Create New Bans.. And It's Dumb.
I'm sure you've heard, and if you haven't, I'm sorry to tell you this.
Disney has decided on the bonehead move of the decade- To completely ban smoking and larger strollers for their parks.
Along with this, all strollers over 31x52 are banned also. This means anything bigger than your basic umbrella stroller or slightly nicer models are out. No more wagons, no more double strollers and who knows what people with more than two kids are going to do. Also, Loose Ice is now banned. You cannot carry in a cooler with bags of ice or any type of 'dry ice'.
All of this insanity begins on May 1st.
Now, I can't be sure but I'm willing to bet the complaints are going to be.. something akin to an avalanche. Allow me to explain why this is the highest level of idiotic.
Overseas Travelers.
These people are used to being able to smoke anyplace and everyplace, most other countries don't have the clean-air laws the US does. This is going to create an issue of people hiding in corners or simply standing anyplace to smoke. Sure, cast members will try to explain it but a lot of them also don't speak English. The rest will simply ignore them and continue, by the time security appears, they'll be long gone.
Where as nearly everyone understands a smoking section and can figure out map icons. Not seeing them will translate into 'whatever they don't care'.
The Mess.
With people hiding in corners and various other locations to smoke, the mess will increase and once again you'll be finding cigarette butts in random locations.
I mention this because Disney has a habit of moving smoking sections rather consistently, and people tend to go to the areas they remember (which often have changed). Over the years I've seen plenty of people smoking in old sections who never get told to stop. Because they are out of the way areas that aren't patrolled by cast members beyond housekeeping.
Strollers.
Now, none of us like the massive strollers. They move slow and take up a ton of space but without them we'll see an increase in lost children. Along with this, the dreaded 'Mom Panels' will have a field-day with customer service and not being able to tote their precious darlings around in whatever $200+ doller job they brought along. Management will have to be at the front lines to explain this, because everyone will demand a 'manager' over it. They'll loose a ton of money giving out free rentals to people due to complaints.
Loose Ice/Dry Ice.
Now, they don't state WHY this is suddenly a problem but it seems.. it is. This, in my opinion, is just the last move in Disney's quest to ban outside food/drink from the park along with coolers. They've been trying, for years, to make this happen. With banning 'ice' they'll likely be looking into banning coolers next.
Overall, I wouldn't be to shocked to see these rules quietly disappear in a year or two when things don't work out. Less time if this hits the way I'm expecting.

D23 and Epcot- Oh my!
"Oh my.." Because honestly folks, I don't have a clue what to say about this much less react.
Epcot is finally getting some love and a much needed influx of money for Disney. Mostly to bring the park 'up to snuff' for the 50th anniversary happening in 2021, which leaves me feeling very conflicted.

Disney Parks- Star Wars Land Likely Delayed?
Disney Parks- Star Wars Land Likely Delayed?
New rumor circling today, regarding the much rumored 'Star Wars Land' which may show up at Disney Hollywood Studioes as well as other Disney Parks.
Rumors have been going around since this one broke the surface, with fans and fanatics going bonkers in regards to the idea. Some love it, others hate it. Well, it looks like we're all going to be waiting a while longer before hearing anything more concrete on the matter.
With new movies being released, we'll likely have to wait until those are underway. On top of the fact another blog (Disney and More) believe that the final update of Star Tours will be Disneyland Paris but not until 2016. They make some valid points, we'll likely not see a full 'land' coming until this point due to updating the current rides. When you toss out the idea that Disney World, the most likely park to receive a new 'Star Wars Land' first, is still in the middle of working on AvatarLand.. it's unlikely that they'll take on two massive construction projects at once.
So, we can rest easy (or upset) for a while. We likely won't be seeing changes or announcements for some time!

Disney's Magic Kingdom- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Testing
After months of quiet construction, it seems Disney World's Magic Kingdom Park is finally moving forward on testing their newest addition to the "Fantasyland Expansion". Set to open in 2014, The Seven Dwarf's Mine Train has been spotted doing ride through tests after months of the track being completed.
Slowly but surely, the outside areas of the ride's themeing is coming together. Still no word about what progress is being made to the rides inside themeing though we can guess it's probably coming along nicely at this point.
On neat thing about this video, you can spot the 'swaying' of the ride cars.

Disney's "AvatarLand" Project: Why this is a bad time.
Disney's "AvatarLand" Project
...and why it pisses me off!
In case you couldn't tell by the title, this little rant is about Disney's idea of building an entire land in the Animal Kingdom park based off the idea of James Cameron's blockbuster movie "Avatar". Also why I think it's about the dumbest idea I've heard yet.
Image from IMPAwards.com |
Well Folks, It's that time of the month again.
No, Not that time, Geeze!
Time for Carrie to begin bitching as yet another "AvatarLand" rumor pops up. I know I've said it before but I don't think I've ever really explained exactly why this project aggravates the complete living HELL out of me! Allow me to pull out my little soapbox here and I shall enlighten you.
Now, before anyone get's on their high horses, let me explain a few things.
-I have nothing against the movie, I thought it was one of the most amazing and beautiful thing's I've ever really experienced. Especially in IMAX. Wow, Pretty! However, this isn't original folks. Most of us have seen this exact story before, in a different setting. It happened in 1992, We called it Furn Gully: The Last Rainforest and it had Tim Curry, it wins. It's also pretty much every iteration of Pocahontas we've ever seen. So while beautiful and amazing, not original.
-I've got nothing against James Cameron, Except Titanic. However, I can forgive him that since he made Aliens which is one of my favorite movies.
-I fully believe that Disney, of all the theme parks, really has the power to bring this rich and beautiful world to life. If anyone any can, it would be Disney.
Okay, Carrie. What started this rant anyway?
Good Question! Let me explain!
Since this project was announced, details have been sketchy. The opening date of 2015 has been bumped back twice now yet Disney keeps insisting the project is still in the design process. Also rumors of having trouble working with Cameron already exist.
Well on Friday, those great folks over at OTPN posted an update about "AvatarLand" which reads something like this:
AVATAR - Walt Disney Imagineers are currently in the design stage for AVATAR
at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is
joining forces with visionary filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed
Entertainment to bring the world of AVATAR to life creating themed lands
that will give Guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious
universe of AVATAR first hand. With its emphasis on living in harmony
with nature, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a natural fit for the AVATAR
stories, which share the same philosophy. Construction is expected begin in 2013 and project of this size typically takes approximately five years to design and build.
I suggest you head over to their and read the whole article which can be found at: Orlando Theme Park News: AVATAR Land construction expected to start soon.
Why it's a shoddy idea..
1. The Current State of Disney World..
Okay if you haven't been keeping up with the gossip, rumors and other general rants of the Disney Fan community, let me explain. Disney World, isn't in the best of shape right now. Many attractions have issues, large and gaping issues. Everything from Mechanical (broken animatronics, collapsing mountains) to "Bad Show" problems (Dirty, Worn and Visible Paint, Gaping holes). Don't believe me? Do some google searches, you'll quickly find half a dozen message boards with photos pointing out these huge problems.
Frankly, Disney World needs to pay more attention to these current problems and fix them now.
Letting things go and go some more until their major problems has never worked for this company. Point in fact, this is exactly what they tend to do when the idiots in upper management want an attraction gone from the parks. Still don't believe me? When was the last time you rode 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? The Skyway to Tomorrowland? BodyWars?
Hopefully your thinking along my lines here, that being, they're letting so much fall apart as it is... can we really trust these people to build something that requires the attention to detail that Avatar requires? I honestly have no answer for this question but not much hope either. Corners keep being cut that I can't really put the faith into the current Disney World upper management (you know, the people who okay the spending budget?) to do this right.
2. Still Under Construction...
Aside from the problem Disney World already has which is not fixing and maintaining what they've got, there is the added problem of still having one major expansion still under construction. Remember, the new FantasyLand Expansion (which isn't really and expansion!) still isn't finished. Nor will it be finished until summer of 2014 when the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is anticipated to open.
Image from Disneyparks.disney.go.com |
So this project is still unfinished and already their wanting to bite off another two possible projects!
One being this shoddy "AvatarLand" idea and the second being the much rumored "Disney Hollywood Studios Expansion" which may or may not include a Florida version of a Pixar movie attraction. This seems a little too much going on at one single time to really work well in resorts favor.
My parents always taught me to finish one project before I begin another. Because things get muddled and often important and vital parts end up missing. Mostly because your attention is now in two places when it should be focused on one. I'm sure you've all heard some version of this at least a thousand times in your own lives. Perhaps Disney should pay more attention to the old words of wisdom passed down from parents to kids, they tend to really mean something.
3. Wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which get's full first.
Another one of those catchy slogans and a direct quote from my own Mother.
We all know Disney doesn't really listen to their fans and critics unless we complain loudly enough, in person and only while at the parks. If they listen then, we're lucky but they still need to hear it. While I doubt they'll ever listen to reviews or concerns about projects like "AvatarLand" they do listen when we complain about the state of the parks.
So with that folks, I ask you this. If you see a bad show at any Disney Park, from a broken animatronic to peeling paint.. Please tell guest services. File a complaint or let them know your disappointed in the show you got. This is about the only control that we, the paying guests, have left within our power.
Alright, We get it. You don't like the project, done yet?
Yes! I'm done and I thank all you wonderful readers to taking the time to listen. I'll get off my soapbox now and allow you to either do the research or draw your own conclusions from the basic info I've provided.

The "Forget Me" Files: Disney Edition
"Disney" Edition
Round One
Round One
We all have them. Those memories parks that we wish we didn't have, the one we wish had gotten lost someplace in our mental coding but didn't. The few memories about what scared us as children or even still freak us out as adults. In some cases even things we liked as innocent children that now make us collectively stop and go "My God, That's some freaky shit".
Digging into my own personal memory banks, I give you a small list of things that fall into my own mental list of "Shit I wish I could FORGET, Disney Edition". This is by no means a full collection nor even my own photos as my parents have those and I haven't yet got the motivation to dig threw dusty boxes of ancient history, although I probably should get to that one of these days!
Tonight, I'll give your three examples of various things I WISH I could forget about various trips to Disney World. Each week I plan to present another three things which in turn wigged me out at some point in my life. There is quite a bit of materiel here to work with! So with that, let's begin with the very first set of things which come to mind...

Each week I plan to present another three things which in turn wigged me out at some point in my life. There is quite a bit of materiel here to work with! So with that, let's begin with the very first set of things which come to mind...
1. The 25th Anniversary Birthday Cake Castle
(As I called it "The Barbie Barf Castle")
Image from Intercot.com |
What in the seventh level of Dante's own hell is THIS shit? Yeah that was my reaction too the very first time my innocent childish eyes spotted the beyond pepto-bismal pink shade that Cinderella's Castle was sporting the fall of 1996.
It was a nightmare. A monstrosity. It was Barbie throwing up her party cake after to many Comsos' in Kens convertible Porsche! The true horror of this thing can't even be explained with words or pictures, you really had to see this for yourself to understand the levels of "DEAR GOD, WHY?!" that happened.
Hundreds of complaints happened because of this fiasco. People wanted to sue Magic Kingdom for ruining wedding photos and vacations since they didn't tell anyone the dirty trick they where playing on the general public with this one. To this day I can still recall vowing not to step foot in Magic Kingdom until it was gone, I didn't either because.. well just look at it!
2. The Magical World of Barbie
(As I called it "Barbie Does Epcot")
No. I'm Not Kidding. This shit was REAL. I remember it, I remember being mildly horrified by it.
In 1994 Barbie became the "Friendship Ambassador" of Epcot Center and the bimbo got a series of dolls and her own damn show at American Adventure. Why? We don't have a clue but I'd be willing to bet all my "good" alcohol on the fact Mattel had sponsorship with Disney World and according to some rumors was in contract to give the broad her own show (according to Walt Dated World). This show was a little girls nightmare come true. Fireworks, Birds, Bad 80s-90s fashion and a pink limo for those must have family photos!
3. Epcot's "People of the World" Dolls.
(As I once said "Incomprehensible SCREECH!")
Holy Shit. These damn things. I HATED these things, they scared the ever-lovin' hell out of me as a small child. Imagine an 8 foot doll, they walked, they hugged, they BLINKED and LOOKED AT YOU. No, I'm not kidding these things could WATCH you.
In the early years of Epcot these 'Giant Dolls' where dressed as People of the World and wondered about World Showcase shortly after opening in 1982. They didn't last very long, probably due to the fact they terrified both kids and adults! I have a picture someplace of my young toddler self entirely terrorized by one of these things.

Theme Parks and Super Heroes- The Messy Side
Well folks, this topic has been going hog wild online the last few weeks so I suppose I may as well address the monster head on. Mostly because I'm tired of incorrect, nearsighted people who are completely convinced they know it all.
Now as I'm a female with only mild interest in the "Super Hero" franchises outside of what park owns what rights and how cool the ride/attraction is based on said hero. I'm going to happily stick a plunger to my husband and pick his brain on this matter. Let's face it, I'm an 80's child so I have a rather well rounded education on all things "cartoon" growing up but I freely admit outside of knowing "Super Hero Name" and "Main Arch-Villain" is I'm fairly clueless. My Super Hero education comes entirely from playing war with the neighborhood boys growing up and what the movies tell me, this is where my husband comes in!
Some of you may know him, he writes Kitsuneverse which is all things Amine, Cosplay, Conventions and More. However for matters of this article, he's Mr. Know-It-All (do NOT tell him I said that, I'll never hear the end of it)!
Okay, let's dive into this at the most logical start point I can think of. That would be what theme parks own/operate the rights to what super heroes and/or franchises. Get comfortable, this is going to get rather convoluted rather quickly. Because let me tell you, we had a HELL of a time tracking all of this shit down and figuring out the crazy twisted path things take. We'll attempt to explain it to you all as best as possible and hopefully the dots will all connect in the end? Well, lets hope so cause we're onto something here!
The Players
Universal Resort:Universal is undoubtedly the ten ton neon yellow gorilla in the corner. You know it's there but you tiptoe around it hopefully not attracting it's attention because it's probably a man-eater and most likely is hungry.
Universal Orlando Resort owns the rights to operate Marvel, or more exactly Marvel Superhero Island. Now to understand this you have to go back into the History of the park and when the concepts began. Originally Marvel Superhero Island was concepted to DC Superhero Island in 1991 but shortly after this someone else bought the rights to DC Comics in a theme park setting which knocked DC off the table (See Six Flags). During this same time, it's safe to say Marvel Comics was a company in very deep shit. As in they where nearly broke and very close to going out of business entirely, now here comes a giant resort with gobs of money who want to build attractions with your characters names slapped onto them. Your going to say "YES" and in 1995 when construction began on Islands of Adventure that's exactly what happened with their contact lasting until 2050.
Now things begin to get murky, in 2009 Walt Disney Company bought out Marvel Comics but I'll get to that under the Disney Section.
The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Universal Orlando
Six Flags Amusement Parks:
Before Six Flags got huge in the 90's they where mostly small regional parks, numbering only six parks scattered all over the United States. In 1984 Warner Brothers signed a licensing deal with Six Flags, Now at this point not a single one of us is thinking "Super Heroes" or even "Comics". No we're thinking Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Looney Toons which is what that initial deal was entirely about. It was a fluke side effect the Warner Brothers also happens to own DC Comics and has since 1969, so naturally in 1991 when Warner Brothers/Time Warner bought a 50% share of all Six Flags Amusement Parks the rights to use the DC Comic characters came completely into play.
This successfully knocked Universal Studios out of the running for the DC Comic Characters (see Universal Orlando Resort)
Batman the Ride at Six Flags Magic Mountian
Paramount Parks:
Now while Paramount owns no rights to theme parks super heroes, they also come into play in this crazy mess. In 1993 Paramount Pictures when on a completely buying spree, acquiring 6 theme parks of their own. Paramount is the parent company of Dreamworks/SKG which is licensed out to Universal Studios. Now in 2006 Paramount sold off their theme park franchise was the same time they purchased Dreamworks/SKG, not to be confused with Dreamworks Animation which is a seperate company but is distributed by Paramount. Again at the same time owned all the distribution rights for Marvel until the Disney Company buyout of Marvel comics. This deal is to end in 2012 with Disney Company buying out the rest of their contacted rights to the movies.
Walt Disney Company:
Disney is the other ten ton neon pink gorilla in the corner and we know it's an established man-eater!
Now Disney has NOTHING to do with Super Heroes at all, they had no interested in them as they had a proven money-maker in the form of movies and princesses and theme parks long before anyone else thought to jump into the park game.
Now in 2009 Disney Company purchased Marvel Comics: Lock, Stock and Barrel. Many aren't entirely sure why exactly they went after and purchased Marvel, it's said the Iger is a fan and wanted to work the brand into Disney's vast library. Others say Marvel was just a logical fit for Disney who has been trying to expand their brand into more "boy" related things lately and Marvel and Super Heroes are the logical way to do this.. either way no one knows the true reasons behind the purchase. So Disney now owns Marvel. Universal has rights to Marvel Characters and Paramount has rights to distribute Marvel movies.
This shit is messy. So let's break it down further, please keep in mind a LOT of this is pure speculation on our parts just based on knowing how these parks think and operate.
When Disney purchased Marvel, Universal found themselves in a unique bind. With their rival park and company now owning one of their key pieces, the contact came into play that they signed with Marvel. While Universal is allowed to keep the current rides they have and anything that was "On the Drawing Board at time of purchase" they are now stuck as they can't build or add onto the are Marvel Superhero Island.
Now onto the Speculation.
Universal now has a useless contact which they can't build upon without giving a rival a large sum of money if that would even work. Disney wants these characters but can't use them right now due to said existing contract.
MASSIVE IMPASSE
No one is happy, No one can build and the knifes are on the table.
SHIT! Not again!
_________________________________________________________
Here, have a pony!
Connecting the Dots..
Now, What does Universal Orlando have that Warner Brothers owns all distribution rights to? What is Universal Orlando's biggest draw right now.. that Warner Brothers owns all distribution rights to as well as the first four books? I'll give you a clue, it's MAGIC.Universal Orlando struck gold with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, their printing money in the basement and can't spend it fast enough. Now Warner Brothers and Universal already have a good working relationship due to Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling. It's become much the matter of rumor these days that Universal and Warner Brothers are going to do something very sneaky, many of us suspect that they may make a deal to knock Disney right off their collective ass and stop making them money on the Marvel name.
Many believe that Universal is going to get their hands on DC Comics by making a deal with Warner Brothers, Allowing them to transfer Marvel Superhero Island into DC Superhero Island was originally planned. Now not a single person has any idea what this will mean for Six Flags who is no longer owned by Time Warner but who currently keep the rights for the characters owned by them.
Universal could make the deal with DC and easily change two parts of Islands of Adventure.
Marvel Superhero Island could easily transfer to DC Superhero Island, allowing new characters with no restrictions like Disney has upon them now. They could easily build and expand without having to worry about paying off the rival park and company.
Also they could easily add in another piece of Warner Brothers history into a park of Islands of Adventure which is drastically lacking: Cartoon Lagoon. They could add in the Looney Toon characters to their own, giving them a much bigger drawing power then the now antique characters their spotting today. Let's face it, most kids today haven't a clue who Duddly Do-Right and Woody Woodpecker are.. but they do know Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
At least, those are my own ideas and adding up of the current Gordian knot of tangles these relationships are between companies and parks and who-owns-rights-to-what.
Super Heroes.. Sometimes a problem
Let's face it, Super Heroes are big money at the moment and whoever holds the most popular of those characters is sitting on top of the world.. for now.The problem with Super Heroes and the franchises around them in general is they are VERY easily lost. A few bad movies and your in trouble. Movie Studios will stop making these movies the moment they fail to make money, we've got a few examples of these that I can easily think of off the top of my head.
Batman: We love Batman, he's damn cool. He doesn't need superpowers to kick your ass, he's got a million and one cool toys and all the money in the world to buy more! However we've had some bad turns over the years. We all remember "Batman Forever" or as I enjoy calling it: Batman and the Attack of the Neon Nightmare of 1995. It was horrible, it was a flop. They attempted to make it better with "Batman and Robin" in 1997 which really was even more horrible then the Neon Nightmare! This successfully killed the Batman franchise for years until 2005 when "Batman Begins" finally fixed the problem.
Spiderman: In 2002 Spiderman made a HUGE success of its-self, and Spiderman 2 was an even bigger hit. However the entire thing went down in a flaming pile of wreckage in 2007 with Spiderman 3. It took another 4 years until Spiderman was made into something halfway decent again but even that wasn't the massive success of the 2002 version.
Proof that one or two bad movies can kill your franchise. People get paid millions and millions of dollars for trying to guess what "The Next Big Thing" will be, right now we're stuck on Super Heroes. What will happen next is anyone's guess and the Super Hero thing will fade for 10-15 years until it comes back for it's next reiteration.
Now I don't expect this to happen for at least about 5-10 years given the current trend and popularity but the fact we can't forget is it will end and this is something that these parks think about. They don't just look at what is popular today, they are looking 20-50 years into the future. Many of us call it "The Long Game" and that is what will dictate a LOT of what will happen between all of these theme parks and their huge deals counting into the billions of dollars.
So, what does it all mean?
In the end, until something is announced or a massive leak happens we're simply not going to know what these parks have on their drawing boards. We can speculate all we want, dream and hope our own personal favorite character will make an appearance at our favorite theme park in the form of an epic and groundbreaking ride. In the end Theme Parks and Super Heroes are a well twisted up puzzle.

Tales from the Firing Line- How I escaped the Emergency Stop from HELL
Happy Friday!
To make your week look a little brighter, we've got another "Tales from the Firing Line" for you. This is where myself and other folks share their horror stories of working for the Amusement Park Industry. So sit down and get comfortable, these tend to be long!
How I escaped the Emergency Stop from HELL
Where to begin? Oh yes, the backtstory!
Many moons ago, right after High School I worked for Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fl. I was "Ride Operations" at Hollywood Studios, back then known as "Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park" we all just called it MGM for short. I was stationed in Area 3, which included Rock'n'Roller-Coaster (RnRC), Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Fantasmic theater. Typically I was located at Rock'n'Roller-Coaster but often traveled around to my other two sister attractions within my area.
This story begins one afternoon, I was on inside loop of RnRC. Which included Line Control, Load, Unload and Control. The day was trudging along like normal this steamy summer day, I was just grateful that I got inside loop since the temperature outside soared to over a hundred this fateful day. I kept moving along my circuit, as normal never knowing what kind of hell would be coming my direction very shortly.
I follow my route around, finally at unload my bump comes across a now empty train. So I in turn head over to Control and plop myself down in the nice, air condition "Parking Booth". Scanning threw the log book, nothing interesting has really happened so I go about the business of launching trains and yelling at tourists not to climb the damn fence. All very typical, day in/day out actions.. then the phone rang about 10 minutes before my lunch break.
"RnRC Control" I answered
Manager: Hey Carrie, just a heads up. We're gonna get hit with a massive power surge.
"SAY WHAT?!"
Manager: Power surge, incoming.
"Aw Fuck, When?!"
Manager: Anytime now, we just got word. Sorry..
I hang up the phone, check that my microphone is off and let loose a string of profanity half a mile wide that is STILL probably hanging someplace over the ride building!
Just great, I'm due for my lunch break next and it's easily been 3 hours since I got to work. I'm hungry and a hungry me often results in a very cranky me. So this was in no way good news.
You see, if your in the Control Booth when the ride goes down or into "Emergency Stop" your required to STAY there until the problem is sorted out or a manager or maintenance gives you the 'All Clear' to leave your post without a complete ride shut-down. So as you can guess, this is NOT a situation you want to be in. While everyone else gets a who-knows-how-long break.. your stuck doing all the work! A power surge is normally a 2 hour problem for something as advanced at RnRC, it's a complete hard reset then you've got to cycle your trains at least 3 full circuits to check all the ride systems.. and that's if nothing goes wrong!
Now I'm nervous, REALLY DAMN NERVOUS!
Shit! Shit! Shit! I have to pee too, NOT GOOD!
I'm watching my panel, I've got the control radio on full blast so I can hear over the music and noise to listen to where this 'Power Surge' is. As I look up I see the bump rotation begin, at this point I'm less then 3 minutes from my allotted 1 hour break, dancing in my chair with impatience I'm watching the rotation ready to BOLT from that control room the first possible moment. I can see my bump, heading my way and dragging his feet.. he knows whats coming too and doesn't want to deal with it anymore then I do!
HURRY THE HELL UP!
Finally he can delay no longer, the door opens and I sign over then literately DIVE out of the booth. I look up and not 30 seconds later the entire control board turns RED, blood red... like DEATH. The power surge took down the system, the entire ride screeched to an Emergency Stop.
...but it didn't matter because I was OUT THE DOOR!
(Insert insane giggling and several minutes of happy dancing in full view of the tourists here)
Since I was out of Control when the power surge hit, it was no longer my responsibility! Although I must admit, it was odd not to hear anyone on the radio giving warning. Either way, I stay well outside the door and give my bump the complete run-down of my non-eventful shift and skip off to a lovely 2 hour break.
I enjoyed my full lunch and clocked back in to sit about and Bullshit since it took nearly 3 hours to get the rid back up and running. However I felt bad for the guy who bumped me, so during lunch I got an extra cookie and brought it to him as a consultation prize.. because your ride crew is like family.

What happened to the Characters in Flight Balloon?
Cause I have to tell you, I was confused as hell when I came home from a lovely weekend out to hear that all of Disney's "Characters in Flight" balloons around the world had been shut down.. some even removed very quickly. I had to contact a friend to even find out what on earth they where talking about because somehow my brain-in-vacation-mode didn't connect the dots!
Well naturally when I got home and sat down for some serious internet searching to try and find an answer! After a little while I came across what many are suspecting is the reason, so I'm here to share it with the rest of you!
in the gas-filled bag. Park officials refused to provide details, but
some witnesses said the gash was more than three meters wide."

Five people where injured when the same type of balloon which operates as Disney's "Characters in Flight" sprung a leak and suddenly became very close friends with gravity.
"The problem was a rupture
Well Folks, I think after that article and some really shocking pictures it's easy to see that Disney would quickly bring down their own fleet. However I'm surprised to find out the balloon at Downtown Disney is Orlando, Florida has been completely removed. Perhaps it's simply for a detailed check of all operating items and the balloon its-self but I suspect this could be a permanent closure and full removal for this pay-per-ride attraction. The balloons in Disneyland and Disneyland Paris are also closed until further notice, no word of their complete removal has been posted yet to my knowledge.
I'll post more information if any becomes available, so please stay tuned!

Daily Distractions- 6/26
Daily Distraction 6/26
Good Morning!
You may have noticed, Daily Distractions has been a bit spotty on updates lately. Well it's an easy explanation, I've got to dig up new material for you lovely folks! That's right, the list I made when I began 'Daily Distractions' has pretty much empty now. So this week, I'll be hunting down fun and exciting new things to post up for the Daily Distractions!
Anyway, let's get onto today's distraction!
Today I've got something fun and very much geeky for you, a lovely set of blue-prints which feature many of Disney's Signature rides from all their parks across the globe! This lovely set of goodies comes to us from a Flickr user named Enfilm. How they have all these I've got no idea but I'd love to have some of them printed as wall art for myself!

Bad News- Disney Spending to Decline
Well Friends, It was bound to happen.
Our hopes and dreams for a massive Epcot Center and World Showcase refurbishment looks to be held off for another 5-10 years. Talking Head #2 (Bob Iger) announced today that after the massive billions of dollars spending spree Disney Parks have been on for the 2011-2012 years they will then turn their eye to a move "conservative" approach in coming years.
"I think you're likely to see relatively prudent behavior over the next number of years," Iger told analysts. "We do have some commitments that will continue to be reflected in increased capital spending — the one that is most notable is Shanghai Disneyland, and [there's] the completion of the Fantasyland redo or build-out in Florida. But I think you're likely to see a fairly prudent period for the company."- From the Orlando Sentinel
It looks like aside from Test Track and the GM refurbishment deal that Epcot Center, the once crown jewel of Disney Technology has fallen by the wayside once again. Rumors have been circulating for years that Epcot is do for a massive refurb and updating of systems, it looks like that rumor may well be false according to what Iger has told in this press conference. Epcot has been in the red on admission and costs the last several years due to no real updates being put into place, Mission: Space being that last true building project they produced in the last few years. When the FantasyLand expansion hit the rumor circuit we all had hope that once Magic Kingdom was squared away again with an even number of rides that hopefully the Epcot rumors would prove true!
Sadly, it looks like we are all bound for disappointment once again.

(ENGAGE RANT MODE: ON!)
Damn it, Disney! Do you purposely NOT listen to the fans? To your employees? To your Imagineers?! Epcot needs love if you ever want to see that park in the black and back up to snuff!
Yet somehow you don't pay attention to the places that NEED the love. Epcot Center, World Showcase and Hollywood Studios need attention. They need big ticket attractions and next gen technology to keep on par with your giant projects. We don't want "AvatarLand" we want open pavilions at Epcot, We want NEW countries in World Showcase, We want NEW movie attractions!
Open your eyes and get your head out of your collective asses, it might just do you a WORLD of good!
Sorry, things like this REALLY drive me completely batshit insane.
