Cedar Fair Parks- Seat Belts Added to Rides.

Seat Belts on Diamondback from CoasterForce
Cedar Fair is Adding Seat Belts to Rides.

This is surprising, rides which have operated for years without 'seat belts' are now getting them. Rides which where never built or designed to have them, now have them. Likely cutting down on loading time and the riders 'air time' feelings.

No one is entirely sure why Cedar Fair is going around it's parks and adding unneeded seat belts, but it's happening and fans aren't very pleased about it. Rides which have operated perfectly fine under manufacturer specification are now subject to added seat belts which where never required or needed in the past. The list of coaster effected is fairly wide and spread out all over the various parks which Cedar Fair owns.

Kings Island- Diamondback
Carowinds- Intimidator
Canada's Wonderland- Behemoth (Unconfirmed)

Each of these coasters are considered 'sisters' meaning they have many of the same elements and much of the same set-up. Diamondback and Behemoth both have coaster trains with the 'stadium seating' (I can't speak for Carowinds as I haven't gotten there yet).  There is no word yet what other coasters may have been infected with Cedar Fairs newest madness but it's a likely bet that Canada's Wonderland's 'Leviathan' may also have been effected in this not-bright move.

It seems silly. As I've learned about B&M coasters I've also learned it takes power to unlock their ride restraints. Without that power, they simply can't unlock as it isn't possible. If they can't get power to the ride (in event of a ride stop or power outage) they pretty much have to take the seat apart around you to remove you from the ride. Unlike others, there isn't a button or lever you can activate to simply unlock the seat, it has to have power plus those other items. You can't "fly out" of these things even if you wanted too. They cannot 'unlock' on their own. Once your in that seat- your in it.

That's why, to me, this seems a highly silly move.
Plus if your dumb enough to TRY and get out of you seat while on a roller coaster..You deserve exactly what's coming to you.

Canada's Wonderland- Wonder Mountains Guardian Update and Delay

Image from CWMaina FB Page
Canada's Wonderland- Update and Delay on Wonder Mountain's Guardian.

Work keeps moving along at Canada's Wonderland on their newest project- Wonder Mountains Guardian. Although, this update comes with some bad news also.

Work on the ride is moving along and from the images found on CWMania's Facebook Page, it looks like their getting ready for full circuit testing of the new attraction.  The new trains for this ride look very similar to other attractions of this nature, primarily those from Disney Hollywood Studios' "Toy Story Maina" but we can't be sure if they rotate in the same style.  The 'guns' in question also appear to be affixed on a flexible arm, which is different from other rides of this nature which normally allow you to lift your gun out and extend your arms while it's attached by a cord.  This seems like the better idea as the 'corded guns' tend to have problems once thousands of people begin yanking on them.

 Now, the bad news.
It seems the Media Day Preview for Wonder Mountain's Guardian has been delayed. The ride simply isn't ready yet and the park wants things to be working perfect and looking perfect before opening. It appears from images that much of the work in question is 'superficial' work to Wonder Mountain. Smoothing out edges and re-covering construction holes.

Wonder Mountain's Guardian has never had an 'official' opening date, maybe believed it would open with the park on May 4th. However, it seems that the ride will open later on in the season once the beautification and testing processes are complete.

 Never Fear!
We'll keep you posted when more news is available!

Disney World- Hollywood Studios 25th Anniversary Celebration

Disney Hollywood Studios 25th Anniversary Celebration.

Did you know this is an Anniversary year at Disney World? Don't feel bad, most people don't. Hollywood Studios (Formerly Disney-MGM Studios) theme park is celebrating 25 years open in the 2014 season.

However, you won't find much news coverage about the event. The park has never been what Disney World has hoped it would develop into, while it has some great events during the year, the lack of planning and Disney money in the park has kept it rather underdeveloped compared to others.

Over it's 25 year life, not much has been added in the way of 'big attractions' to the park. Pretty much 2 'big ticket' rides and a lot of cuts has kept the park quietly in the background.  While it's always been one of my personal favorites, it makes me rather sad to see Disney NOT making a bigger deal of it's 25th Anniversary. There will be some limited 25th Anniversary merchandise available for purchase.

This park needs love and attention, just as much as Epcot does. It needs a vital influx of money and ideas to make it sparkle, which it could do easily if someone at WDW just cared enough to stop building resorts and dumping all the cash into Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

On May 1st, 2014 Disney Hollywood Studios will celebrate it's 25th Anniversary with the following events-

10am- Re-Dedication Ceremony with Dan Cockerell and some of the 25 year employees.

7pm- "Stars of the Studios" Motercade, which will travel up Hollywood Boulevard featuring some big stars found in the park (Captain Jack Sparrow, Darth Vader. Wreck-it Ralph, Sophia the First plus Mickey and Minnie Mouse. No nod to past stars or other characters found in the park).

After the Motorcade-  A Dance Party will be held at the stage in front of the tacky 'Sorcerers hat' .

9:30pm- Fireworks Show to be set off around the same tacky 'Sorcerers' hat.

All Events are available to anyone with normal park admission.

*Rumor Alert* Busch Gardens Williamsburg- 2015 Expansion A Coaster?

Image from BGWFans
Busch Gardens Williamsburg- The 2015 'Festa' Expansion A Coaster?

The great folks at BGWFans thinks they've found the answer that's been lingering in all our minds.

We've all known an expansion is coming to the 'Festa Italia' area of the park in 2015 and we know it was suppose to be decently sized, based alone on the permit submissions.  However, what I don't think anyone expected what BGWFans has possibly figured out.

Image from BGWFans
Based on Size and Footprint someone put two-and-two together can game up with Primer Rides.  One of their smaller, single train coasters which would match the height and generalized footprint which we believe Busch Gardens is currently working with.  Their fairly small, have a low rider capacity and are what fans call "Off the Shelf" coasters. Their not original and have a stock footprint any park can buy. The example to the left is "Superman" from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Which has a low rider capacity and low through-put time. All these will create long times and general headache type situations.

Please keep in mind, all of this is speculation. Nothing has been confirmed.

Now, here is when I begin to speculate on my own. While many are having fits over this, I think there are a few things their not considering. A several different types of coasters can and will fit into this small space, things much better than a stock ride. Several of these aren't my favorite type of ride.

Image from RCDB
 For Example-
In that small small footprint you can fit in an Intamin AG 4th Dimension 'Ball Roller' style of roller coaster. One good example of these is to the right- Green Lantern- First Flight.

These are small, compact and rather damn fun. They also have the benefit of being fairly unique styles of rides with a much higher rider/capacity rate overall.  Sure they get lines and can't chew through the lines the way a giant 'steel monster' can, but their better that the original proposal of a Primer stock Coaster.

This could easily fit into the general parameters which people smarter then I can read on the permit sheets filed by Busch Gardens.

 This is just one example.
Other rides like this exist, which fit in small areas. Busch Gardens also has ZERO history with Primer Rides and these parks are creatures of habit. I've gone through   We should be looking outside to someone which Seaworld Parks has worked with in the past- B&M, Zierer, Intamin AG and Mack Rides. I'd look to them first. If I've learned anything about these parks, they go with what they know.

I'd bet my money on Intamin AG to build the new attraction. I'd like to see it be a 4th Dimension coaster but I'm not even going to speculate on the type! Just know that Seaworld Company Parks have a relationship established with this company already in the form of 'Cheetah Hunt' found down at Busch Gardens Tampa.

Fire at Clermont Steel- B&M Ohio Coaster Plant

Fire at Clermont Steel, B&M's Ohio Fabricator.

Not good news for American Roller Coaster Fan this morning as older news tends to hit late.

Cincinnati's WLWT is reporting that two alarm fire broke out at Clermont Steel Fabricators recently. This is the Ohio Plant which produces many of the United States collective of B&M Roller Coasters. The fire departments reports the fire started in a 'bag house' in which the company stores recyclable items. They also report no injuries but also not damage assessment either. As you can see from the image, coaster track is stationed outside the plant for delivery... no word of if this will effect future coaster deliveries.

First Look and POV of Liseberg's Newest Coaster - Helix!

Today is Pressday at Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden and they're officially unveiling the park's largest investment to date, Helix. The park's 4th coaster, built by Germany's Mack Rides, is the largest and fastest to date. By this time, the first riders have already experienced the intensity that this monster coaster has to offer. In just three days, April 26th, the park will be fully open and the general public will get to experience the insanity that is Helix first hand.

Riders will reach speeds of 100km/h (62mph) on this multiple launch coaster and careen through seven inversions and over 3/4 of a mile of track during their 2min 10sec ride. It may not be the fastest, nor the biggest, but it's layout and location within the park should make for one memorable ride!

Seriously, this thing looks mental and intense as hell. One of these days we'll get over there to ride this, one day.

So, without further ado, here's the front seat POV for Liseberg's newest!

Not enough for ya? Here's what you can expect during a night ride!

Conneaut :Lake Park- Only Paying Taxes Will Save Park..

County States "Only Paying Back-taxes Will Save Conneaut Lake Park".

In a not very surprising move Crawford County has stated that the only thing to spot the sale of Conneaut Lake Park is for them to establish.. and actually PAY their back taxes.

The not-very-trustworthy board of trustees has been hunting for a way out of their un-paid back taxes for a while and in the process, maybe save the park which is deeded to the public. The park, which owes more the $900,000 in public and school taxes to the county has been quietly not paying the last several years, making the sum astronomical.  The counties 'Economic Progress Alliance" has worked out and submitted a way out for the worthless trustees, provided they establish a new board to oversee the amusement park and make sure these overdue taxes get re-paid over the next five years.  This new group would consist of three people for the current board and three members of the Alliance, to make sure things get done correctly.

Judging by how bad things have gotten under the over-site of the current board of trustees, I'm not very faithful that this plan will be enacted. While I hope they will move in the right direction to save the park, I'd still suggest every visit this season after they open on May 23rd.

...it may likely be your last chance.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends- You Annoy Me

Many moons ago, when I was a small child I used to love "The Living Seas" pavilion at Epcot Center. It wasn't the most impressive to most people but I always loved how you felt underwater, plus they had one of the only aquariums in Orlando.  However, this new incarnation of the pavilion, featuring projected cartoon Disney fish? It just annoys me.

(Keep Reading- More Below!)

Action Park Lives Again..

 Yes Folks,
I'm not kidding when I say that "Action Park" is returning for 2014.

Often called "Traction Park" or "Fracture Park" by any who spent time at the long gone water park will tell you, it earned it's name a few dozen times over again each season.

Currently owned by Mountain Creek Resort, who've been operating parts of the park quietly for years has decided to go back to the original name and re-open with a dose on insanity that makes even me cringe slightly.  The famous slide, seen above, which won "Class-Action Park" high internet fame is being brought back from the dead with a modern re-creation.

Image from WhiteWater
As if having the name "Action Park" revived wasn't enough an omen, They've also decided to put in an 'Aqua Looper' style slide for 2014.

Details are currently unknown but the president of Mountain Creek has bragged that the "Zero-G" slide will be the worlds only one. Making us believe this could be a fully vertical loop in a waterslide.  He's also stated that they have "kept the thrills but lost the spills" in regards to the parks deadly history.

They also state that many original attractions will return to the park but don't name them. June 14th will be the opening day when answers will be revealed.

The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island

The Bat Flies Again at Kings Island.

Okay so perhaps it's not the insanity of the original "Bat" which barely flew for two years. However, using the lore of that ride they've managed to breath some new life into an old park favorite.

When Kings Island decided to re-theme the old suspended coaster "Flight Deck" we were all happy, this classic style coaster needed some love to boost it back into popularity with riders. Now it fits in well with it's brand new neighbor "Banshee" which just opened to the public on Friday.

Perhaps it isn't a new ride but it's classic and people often forget that classics need love also. With a new coat of paint and a spooky new theme, Bat will hopefully fly into your hearts again.

It may not be as thrilling as it's new neighbor but there is something special about this ride none-the-less. Give it a go, give it ten goes. Trust me, this hidden gem is worth your time. Much like it's name-sake it's a hidden gem, seek it out and your in for a treat.

Holiday World- Removing Pilgrims Pludge

Image from Negative-G
Holiday World- Removing "Pilgrims Plunge".

Today Holiday World announced they will be removing their rather crazy water ride, Pilgrims Plunge (Giraffica).

This unique and complicated water ride was created by Intamin in 2009 and was once featured on the Travel Channel.

The ride has been plagued with issues and problems since it's opening. The park said the following about the rides removal “If you’re one of our super-fans, you’re probably not surprised. You’ve noticed the ride has not been open as often as we all would have liked. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment.”.

Busch Gardens Tampa- Falcon's Fury Delayed

Busch Gardens Tampa- Falcon's Fury Opening Day Delayed.

For unknown reasons, today Busch Gardens Tampa announced that the opening of their new drop tower attraction, Falcon's Fury, will be delayed.

This is currently no word or timeline on when the ride will be opened. The park is currently saying the delay is due to construction issues. However, the ride was seen testing just days ago doing "slow drops". Rumors are flying all over the place, the most current one states that the ride wasn't dropping correctly and was making some form of "screeching" noise.

The new attraction was suppose to open on May1st. Fans are in an uproar of the sudden announcement and even more since there hasn't been another date given yet.  We will update with more news when it comes.

Banshee Media Preview and Ride Review

King's Island- Banshee Media Day Ride Review.

When we were invited to join the press for King's Island's newest roller coaster, Banshee, it was easy to say our excitement level went into orbit. We've been following this newest addition closely from it's announcement, through construction and initial testing. Our expectations were high and our hopes were higher yet for this new ride.

What we found lurking upon the grave of "The Son of Beast" was an amazing piece of steel and engineering. Imagine the perfect coaster storm, everything you could wish for on a ride and then have those dreams manifest in front of you. That is what we found...

Kentucky Kingdom- Lightning Run Update

Image from Screamscape
Kentucky Kingdom- Lightning Run Construction Update.

Kentucky Kingdom keeps working away to get their park ready to re-open for the first time since Six Flags abandoned the park.

This new roller coaster which will open for the 2014 season, is built by Chance Rides and it a model "Hyper GT-X" style attraction. The company has been in business for years but has mostly built smaller-scale coasters, the new Lightning Run seems to be their first "big style" coaster and it looks highly promising!

Carowinds- New Area Announcement

Carowinds Park- New Area Announcement.

On Friday, Carowinds Park finally told us what the huge open space around "Intimidator 305" will be used for- A New Area coming to the park.

On Facebook, Carowinds announced that the new area and project are called "Harmony Hall Marketplace". The park is billing this area as a  both dining and entertainment use, including a new open-air food count with daily shows. Said to seat up to 500 people, this area will feature some of Cedar Fair's newest outside vendors such as: Chickie and Petes, Auntie Anne's and Chick-Fil-A.

Aquatica Orlando- Ihu's Breakaway Falls Completed.

Yesterday at Aquatica Orlando, the final slide section of Ihu's Breakaway Falls, the newest ride opening soon at the water park, was put into place.

As you can see from the image, the last slide section after your "drop" has been put into place. The other two slides of Ihu's are already complete and in place. This new waterslide attraction is set to open on May 9th to the general public.

Seaworld Parks- Stand for Truth

Seaworld Parks- Stand for Truth.

For months, Seaworld Parks have been trying to teach the world at large that what they saw in "Blackfish" was nearly all false. Yet people are still wearing blinders and refusing to do their own investigation into the claims the film made.

Many people stand with Seaworld, including this blog and it's staff. We know the truth, we've done research and some of us have even worked for Seaworld before- we support them.

Now is your change to "Stand with Seaworld" for Truth.  You can join "The Seaworld Truth Team" online to help support the good works and care the company gives and help dispel the hate, bias and ignorance as well as receive email notices and information about the parks.

**NOTE**
Yes, everyone has an opinion on this matter. This post is NOT the place to spout off about it. Anything that can be taken as an attack, hateful, rude, asinine, juvenile or vulgar will be deleted from the comments with extreme predigested by the staff..and we will enjoy it.

Canada'a Wonderland- General Park Update

Canada's Wonderland- A General Park Update.

Well we all know that Wonder Mountain's Guardian is under construction but what else is going on around the park?

According to Screamscape, quite a bit of actively is going on around the park.

-The Wild Boar's "pink" train is getting repainted back to it's original "blue" color.

-Thunder Run is also being painted back to a shade of "blue".

-Swing of the Century is getting a big upgrade with 2,800 LED lights, a big job!

-All of the coaster trains for Backlot Stunt Coaster are being repainted, they will remain the original colors but will remain their original colors of white, red and blue.

Overall, this is quite a bit of activity on top new ride construction, regular maintenance and getting the park ready for their opening day! It's always great to see parks doing basic care and Canada's Wonderland is one park that is excellent at this. It shows when you walk in the gate!

Disney's "It's A Small World" 50th Anniversary

Image from Orlando Sentinel
Disney's "It's A Small World" turns 50.

Some love it, some hate it and many just can't get the song out of their heads for days after riding this iconic attraction.

Disney's "It's A Small World" attractions are celebrating the 50th anniversary since their inception at the 1964 Worlds Fair to promote UNICEF.  The classic song (which inspires love and hate in people) was written by the famous Sherman Brothers and within two weeks of it's debut, a world hit happened.

Image from Orlando Sentinel
From the World's Fair the attraction was enlarged, upgraded and built at Disneyland in 1966, Another version was built at Disney World's "Magic Kingdom" park which opened in 1971. Versions of the ride are also found at Disneyland Paris. Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland. Each park has it's own with slight differences but it's easy to say this this attraction is a must-have Disney Park staple.

To help celebrate the attractions anniversary, Disney has created a website dedicated to the ride where users can upload their own version of "It's a Small World Afterall". Guests can also create their own unique "Small World Figure" and soon you can purchase anniversary items which still support UNICEF projects.

On April 10th, 2014 Guests and Cast Members of the Disney Parks can unite as one and sing along with the song to celebrate the anniversary event.

Love it or Hate it, Small World has impacted both Adults and Children. It's simply a legend and without it, the Disney Parks would be a slightly duller place.

Universal Studios Hollywood- Fast and Furious Ride for 2015

Universal Studios Hollywood Announces New "Fast and the Furious- Supercharged" attraction for 2015.

Just today Universal Hollywood broke the news of their newest attraction- One themed off the hit franchise "Fast and the Furious".

Information about the new ride is still under wraps but Universal stated it will be a thrill ride/movie hybrid attraction which will be placed in the studios 'back lot' area. The attraction will use some of the famous 'back lot' trams which will be encompassed by massive 400 foot long movie screens. Folks from Universal Creative has said they will make guests feel like their exceeding more then 100 MPH with some theme park magic.

Also announced recently Universal Studios Hollywood will be extending their normal "Back Lot Tour" into evening hours, the tours currently end at sunset.

This goes along with the new additions of "Despicable Me" and "Super Silly Fun Land" as well as a massive planned addition to the Simpsons area of the park. Universal has stated their finally catching up from years of semi-neglect from owners more interested in pulling cash out of the parks rather then re-investing in them. Comcast, the most recent owner, has other ideas which are really bringing life and new things back to their parks.

New Orleans turns down Jazzland Proposals

New Orleans turns down multiple proposals for Six Flags New Orleans Redevelopment.

Some bad news for park fans and the people of New Orleans.

The committee in charge of finding a new use for the abandoned "Six Flags New Orleans" has turned down all proposals for the redevelopment of the amusement park. Both plans had wanted to re-open the park as an amusement park again called "Jazzland" which we reported on back in March of this year. Each of these groups has been shot down before from various members of the committee, who appear to have no interest in having a tourist attraction re-built in their city.

They stated that neither interested party had "cash in hand" to prove they where serious about the project and didn't have enough "financial backer collateral" to even be considered.  Both groups have stated it's hard to get more financial backers without a general agreement with the city, who is unwilling to entertain these thoughts.

The area of the old "Six Flags New Orleans" has been largely untouched since Hurricane Katrina and is now just a rotting shell of it's former being. The status of the property still lies dormant and likely well for years to come.

Fire at Six Flags Great America

Still from CBS Chicago
Fire does damage at Six Flags Great America.

A multi-purpose storage building at Six Flags Great America went up in flames for unknown reasons.

The building in question is used for cold weather storage during the winter months and in the summer is also an employee break area. Six Flags won't comment on what was damaged or destroyed in the fire but simply stated to local news that they are looking forward to opening day on May 3rd. The structure was right in the center of the park behind their "Grand Music Hall" and did some minor damage to that building. Six Flags Great America estimates the damage is about $60,000 in total loss from the small fire which was quickly under control and extinguished.

Canada's Wonderland - Wonder Mountain's Guardian Update!

Well, it's been a little while since we've looked at the construction progress of Wonder Mountain's Gaurdian and just yesterday, the photo above was posted up on Facebook by Canada's Wonderland. Handy coincidence, eh? The picture above is of the fully completed lift hill, and while we have no real clue what's going on inside in the mountain, they have to be working hard on getting everything ready. The ride is still set to open on May 4th, along with the rest of the park so they better be!

Along with the completed picture, they also shared a couple of other photos showing the work in progress as well:

I know that myself, along with +Carrie H.C. and +Alexandra F are looking forward to seeing what it's all about and letting you know what we thought of it a bit later in May when we visit the park!

Seaworld Orlando- Shamu Stadium Construction

Construction at Shamu Stadium Nearly Complete.

Good news for fans of Shamu and Seaworld Orlando, the construction that's been taking place at Shamu Stadium is nearly complete.

Seaworld said today to the Orlando Sentinel, that testing of the new shows will begin on April 4th and guests are invited to view the training sessions but asks guests to be aware that they likely won't see complete a run-through of the show (it is training after all).  The two shows in question are the popular "One Ocean" as well as a brand new nighttime show called "Shamu's Celebration: Light Up the Night".  The stadium and One Ocean show will completely open to normal operations on April 14th. The new nighttime show will open for "Seaworld's Summer Nights" celebration on June 21st.

Dine with Shamu will also be returning on April 14th. Season Passholders have a chance to preview the new Dine with Shamu on April 12th and April 13th for a 10% discount with kids eating free.
